Irina Yakunin has spent a week in the Siberian taiga to see how the racers subject themselves and their dogs to a strength test in new conditions.
15-19 February racers from different Russian cities rode 212 miles in Siberian taiga on dog sleds to subject themselves and their dogs to a strength test in new conditions.
The race started at 10 a.m. on 15th of February (Sunday) in the Ust’-mana village and it went on in five stages through Mansky, Berezovsky and Balahtincky districts.
The first stage was Ust’-mana – Beret’, the second is Beret’– Bolshoi Ungut, the third was Bolshoi Ungut – Urman, the fourth was Urman – cove Jul’get and the final stage was the ride from Jul’get back to Ust’-mana village.
212 miles of the route run through virgin Siberian taiga, at the foot of mighty Sayan mountains, along the frozen Yenisey and beautiful taiga river Mana, at the heart of Siberia – in Krasnoyarsk krai.
